The Los Angeles Youth Studio Workshop
is designed to strengthen the skills of talented young singers with practices, games, and exercises highlighting sight-reading, ear-training, blending with others, singing along with a click track, singing in harmony, studio etiquette and technique, improvisation, following musical direction, vocal stylization and flexibility, and much more.
At LA Youth Studio, young singers ages 6-10 (Minuet Workshop) and ages 11-17 (Sonata Workshop) will learn in a unique, hands-on environment outside of the traditional music classroom, choir rehearsal, voice lesson, or studio session. Utilizing music teaching methods, including the Kodály Method, our activities and lessons are meant to be game-based, fun, and interactive. Our goal is to give children the supplemental music instruction necessary to thrive in choral and studio settings. Children will be given the opportunity to both lead and follow various musical activities.
In a choral rehearsal or vocal lesson setting, we understand that there is only so much time in each rehearsal to devote to sight-singing and ear-training. Since there is no pressure to learn choral pieces for upcoming performances with LA Youth Studio, children can focus and dig into the intricacies of musicianship. This includes subdividing rhythms, distinguishing intervals, establishing muscle-memory, reading from real film-session cues, shifting tone colors, writing in changes to music, swapping vocal parts, reading ahead for key/meter changes, and more.
In studio settings, children often arrive with little-to-no rehearsal. This can be a high-stress situation for those with excellent ears but little sight-reading practice. We want to build confidence and precision for those singers who come in and cold-read difficult choral parts. We also address studio etiquette, explore how young singers are asked to sound both classical and colloquial, as well as how to sing comfortably and accurately with a click track and headphones.

The “Minuet” Workshop (ages 6-10) - $75 per singer
The “Sonata” Workshop (ages 11-17) - $145 per singer
The In-Studio Recording Workshop (ages 9-17) - $185 per singer
Location of Workshop is in the greater Los Angeles area, and specific location details will be provided to members upon signing up.
